How to prevent ingrown hairs
- Use tweezers to remove the ingrown hairs. Prior to the plucking of hairs, you may sterilize the tweezers by dipping it in alcohol solution. Never forget to sterilize instruments that come in contact with your blood stream. Furthermore, the risk of infection doubles when you touch an open wound with a foreign object.
- Take the rubbing alcohol, pour it in a cup and then dip the tweezers in to the cup as well. Allow it to sit there for 2 minutes.
- Provide a warm compress on to the ingrown hair with the help of a face cloth that you have soaked with warm water. Place the compress over the ingrown hair for at least 2 minutes when the tweezers get soaked in the alcohol solution. Often, warm compresses help opening up the pores and expose the hair follicle.
- Take out the tweezers from the solution and start pulling the hair with the help of sterilized tweezers. In case you notice that, the compress is not enough to bring the hair to the surface, repeat the process. Remember, that you should not exert pressure while removing the ingrown hair as this may lead to inflammation of the skin. In addition to this, it can increase the risks of infection. If you start pulling the hair completely, it will expose the bloodstream and bacteria underneath the skin. This will later enter in to the skin and eventually result in further infections. Take care to gently tease the hair back to its extended position with the use of tweezers.
- Apply an antiseptic to the areas affected with ingrown hairs. Bacitracian and Neosporin are effective antiseptics. These are capable of killing the bacteria that may have surrounded the hair. Make sure that you clean the area around the ingrown hair and remove any instances of pus formed during the infection.
Rely on the above measures to understand how to get rid of ingrown hairs. Also, try to use electric razors for shaving instead of standard ones. Often, improper shaving techniques is the common cause for the growth of ingrown hair.
